FOREST CITY, IA- With lower than expected numbers of incoming students, Waldorf College is making strategic cuts to meet a smaller budget.

“Our focus continues to be on quality education and providing exceptional service to our students, “ said Dr. Joe Manjone, Waldorf College president.

Waldorf’s total enrollment for fall won’t be certain until September, but officials are expecting just over 500 students – a lower estimate than earlier in the year.

“We built up facilities and services very quickly in an effort to attract more students,” said Manjone. “We are still confident that we will grow our on campus enrollment, but it will take longer than we originally anticipated.”

The budget cuts include a reorganization of staff resources. Waldorf will reduce its on-campus workforce by six employees. Additional adjustments have been made to Waldorf online staff that work off-campus. Some open positions will not be filled.

Ideas and suggestions for budget savings were solicited from all Waldorf faculty and staff. A special budget task force was formed from Waldorf’s president’s council to examine all suggestions and develop a plan. The plan was then approved by the president’s council and the Waldorf College board of trustees.

“The departure of any member of the Waldorf family is a loss to our community,” said Manjone. “But by taking these proactive steps toward budget sustainability, we can preserve as many jobs as possible, and still give our students an outstanding academic experience.”
