Ventura, IA- A North Iowa community is hoping for some major state funding for their street improvement project.
City leaders in Ventura, IA are applying for one million dollars from Governor Culver’s I-JOBS program.
Their resurfacing the town's two main roads, and the total cost of the project is estimated at more than three million dollars. It includes adding new curb and gutter, decorative lighting, and sidewalks.
The city's clerk says the extra money would be a big help.
"We're just trying to lessen the blow to the taxpayers that's our overall goal applying for the I-JOBS funding this is a big project and we're just trying to make it more manageable for tax payers," said Ventura City Clerk Elsa Taylor.
More than 130 communities are applying for nearly 120 million dollars in available state money..
Ventura hopes to start construction next spring.
