MASON CITY, IA - One person is in a local hospital following a two vehicle crash on Highway 18. It happened around five Monday evening. The collision forced state troopers to temporarily close one of the highway's eastbound lanes near Mason City.
Sgt. Richard Pierce told KIMT News 3 the first driver struck a deer while heading toward Charles City on the Avenue of the Saints. That accident caused a second driver to run into the stopped vehicle.
He explained, "another car that was also travelling eastbound behind it struck that car - as a result one of the vehicles went into the ditch, the other vehicle is currently in the roadway."
The driver who hit the deer walked away from the accident. The second person is being treated at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa. Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident.
