CLEAR LAKE, IA-The Surf Ballroom's Winter Dance Party is officially underway.
To start the week's events, the Surf is throwing a party to celebrate the fact that this well known ballroom has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places. That's the country's "official list" of sites considered worthy of preservation.

The fact that the Surf is associated with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, and Rock N' Roll helped them make the national list.

North Iowa Cultural Center and Museum President Jeff Nicholas said, "The music died for a while but found it's re-birth right here in this building, where rock and roll fans from around the world make their annual pilgrimage to celebrate the life and times of Buddy, Ritchie and the Bopper."

The festivities continue throughout the weekend.
