Mason City, IA-In the last few weeks tax bills have been sent to Cerro Gordo county residents, but many of them have ended up back in the hands of the county treasurer's office.

Treasurer Michael Grandon said 270 tax bills have been returned to his office because people have moved and not left a forwarding address.

He said they send out thousands of tax bills every year, so this isn't that many overall.

"For those 270 we've mailed them once, so we have met our responsibility. What we are trying to do now is get a good address so we can mail them a second time," said Grandon.

Grandon said they will try again to get an address for the returned bills.

Grandon says those that don't pay their taxes could face a lean on their property.

Property taxes are due at the end of September.
