MASON CITY, IA - A new program could be the answer for many people trying to quit smoking.
Prairie Ridge Addiction Treatment Services will soon offer a smoking cessation program to the general public. The Prairie Ridge campus is already smoke free and their outpatient programs will soon be as well.
Counselors say the reason behind starting the program is simple: to help save lives.
“The number one cause of death of our clients as we follow them in recovery is some smoking related illness, and in the general public the second leading cause of death is cancer and predominately that is lung cancer,” said Jay Pedelty.
Pedelty says it usually takes multiple attempts to quit smoking and often requires some sort of help.
