DES MOINES, IA - State leaders are trying to decide the future of a popular alcohol.

Members of the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division will take public input on the grain alcohol, Everclear.

This comes after a Drake University student got severe alcohol poisoning from binge drinking the 151 proof liquor.

Division member Lynn Walding says they're trying to schedule a public forum early next year at Drake.

He says they’re not necessarily looking at banning the liquor, but possibly regulating the size of bottle it’s sold in, buying restrictions, etc.

He also adds that this is not just targeting Everclear, but all high proof liquors.

The Division wants to look at all options and at the same time, educate the public about all high proofed drinks.

Walding says he’s spoken with Everclear’s distributor about the issue, and they agree that this is a good time to educate the public.
