Belmond, IA- An area school building will soon be on the market.
Kids at Belmond Elementary moved into a new building in January.
The district is now in the process of selling its old facilities. One is nearly a century old, the other is about half that age.
The school board is discussing the sale of buildings at its meeting Thursday night. Superintendent Larry Frakes says they want to get rid of them before winter heating costs kick in.
"What it costs to heat the place in january, the big building is like $5,000-6,000 a month, so you figure six months of that thats $30,000-40,000 and that's a lot of money," Frakes said.
Frakes says the cost of insurance for the buildings is also a concern.
But if they don't sell, the district could tear them down.
