ALBERT LEA, MN--Those in charge of giving good nutrition to our children day-after-day, are getting an education themselves. Members of the cooking staff for the Rochester School District were taking turns cooking healthy, vegan meals, and learning about good nutrition, at Great Grains Market & Cafe in Albert Lea. Great Grains only cooks completely vegan food.
Manager Norah Nainani says she's not turning the world into vegans, just that she hopes to give school kids more choices, "We all know school lunches are not the healthiest lunches in the world, and to me it is just wonderful to know that children can sit down to a vegetarian lunch and have fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and so on."
Nainani goes on to say, she hopes other school districts will get on board with the get healthy education program. For the children's sake, "Children are eating so much junk and, it's not the children's fault, you know, a lot of them are not educated. I think if the children and the cooks could get together in the schools and I think if the children were allowed to be more involved in the choices they have." They would make more healthful choices in their day-to-day lives.
The Rochester School district contacted the restaurant through their website and said they were interested in implementing some vegan options into their menus.
