HAMPTON, IA--An area school districts votes to close a couple of buildings to save some money.

The Hampton-Dumont school board is voting to close the intermediate building in Dumont and the old middle school in Hampton.

Superintendent Todd Let tow said last year they cut teachers and they didn't want to do that this year
.
He said enrollment is down by nearly 40 kids and that means even more money lost per pupil.

Let tow tells us closing the 2 buildings is a win-win for students and staff.

Said Let tow, "We reduce our expenditures in non-educational things. Closing the building to preserve the teaching staff. and that's what we're trying to do throughout this whole process."

Lettow said 4th graders are moving to the middle school in Hampton.

Third graders are also going to Southside, where there's plenty of space for everyone.

He said they're also willing to work with folks in the community if anyone is interested in keeping the two buildings "viable."
