GARNER, IA--Additional details are being released about gunfire at a police officer’s home in Forest City nearly a week ago.
Hancock County’s sheriff is confirming someone fired several shots, which hit the side of a home in the 3000 block of Pine Avenue in Forest City at around 2 a.m., Thursday July 23.
The home is rented by Thaddeus Ellenbecker, who is a Forest City Police officer.
Ellenbecker was not hurt.
Hancock County Sheriff Scott Dodd has no information about a motive or if the shooting was work related.
He said at this point it is being investigated as an assault and he is not sure what the eventual charges will be.
Sheriff Dodd said bullet casings are being sent to Iowa’s DCI crime lab.
He cautioned it could be weeks or months before they get some results back.
Investigators are currently looking for what’s being described as a dark colored SUV.
