Rockwell, IA- The restructuring of an area medical center is hitting one community especially hard.

Mercy is announcing several job changes.  One casualty will be the Mercy Family Clinic in Rockwell.

It's right next to the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.  They have a doctor on staff, who makes regular visits now, but the home's administrator says the closing will create a big inconvenience.

"While he will continue to come here and see residents and serve as our medical director, it was so convenient, so easy just to take patients to the clinic in between visits," said Sue Adams.

The building itself is owned by the Rockwell Medical Clinic Board.  Adams is also a member of that board.  She says they are currently looking at getting another health care network to staff the clinic.

Adams says the closing of the clinic came as a surprise, and it will greatly affect the community.

"It's going to be more detrimental to our community, the clinic has built up a large clientele, we have people who can't easily travel out of town rely on our clinic for medical care."

She says the board is looking at partnering with another healthcare network in Iowa or Minnesota.
