MASON CITY, IA - America’s Hometown was filled Saturday with white water fans in honor of the project's grand opening.
City officials cut a giant orange ribbon that spanned the width of the Cedar River in Charles City. Folks have been able to use the course for several weeks now, but today's celebration was a chance to recognize those who helped with the project; everyone from the engineer, to the kayakers, like Steve Weliver, who sparked idea for the park.
"Oh, it’s impressive. We've been kayaking here for the past few weeks and there's been quite a few people but not nearly this many."
There are so many tubers out on the river, that local gas stations that rent those tubes are having to buy more. They're also looking to invest in eight-person tubes.
