MASON CITY, IA-Property taxes are a big issue in the Iowa legislature this year.
there are currently three different plans going through in the house.
(R) State Senator Merlin Bartz tells us there are good things about each of the plans.
He said his main goal is to get industrial and commercial tax relief in a bill .... and not shift the cost to home owners.
He adds, if something does not get passed this year, it could mean hikes for another six or even seven years.
Sen. Bartz said, "From my perspective, there's been a lot of talk about property tax reform for many years. This is the year to do it and if we don't do it this year the legislature will only have themselves to blame."
Bartz said he is optimistic they will pass something this year.
