Algona, IA- An important part of Algona's past is coming to the big screen. Movie producers are looking to tell the World about the German POW camp that was once in the north Iowa community during World War II.
It's the true story of German prisoners brought to a quiet farming town in the 1940's. It's also featuring Algona's Don Tietz. Producers and writers say they're thrilled to tell the story.
Liz Finn-Arnold is a screen writer and tells KIMT News 3, "We're not necessarily into WW2 and it's a very male-heavy story. But what's fascinating as writers is, we can immerse ourselves in any story if we do the research."
Sandra Longo agrees. The Algona-native adds, "What made this great is, it's not your typical war story. It's set in the heartland of America."
The film is also featuring Rance Howard. He's the father of Academy Award-winning film director Ron Howard.
