Adams, MN- No doubt, you've seen them, all the windmills now dotting big areas in the region.

Now power companies are working to bring the renewable energy they generate to your home.

Construction is starting, just east of Austin, in Adams, Minnesota.

ITC Midwest, the owner of many of the regions transmission lines, is upgrading more than 25 miles of their system.  The project will connect the Adams substation, with a similar one in Bolan, Iowa.

Current transmission lines are stressed in certain parts of the Midwest.  There are several wind farms surrounding the Adams area.

We talked with an ITC representative.  He says upgrading the nation’s power grid is a growing issue especially here in the Midwest.

"Our transmission system has been in its existing configuration for quite some time and a lot of the growth that we've enjoyed in this country over the past two or three decades has maybe outpace transmission growth to some extent," ITC Midwest Account Representative Keith Eyler.

The project is expected to benefit the Adams area's local economy.  ITC is expected to have around 20 people working on the line

The total cost of the project is estimated at about 20 million dollars.  The new line will allow power to be transferred between the two substations.
