LATIMER, IA--
The man who died Friday afternoon in a plane crash is described by many as just a really great guy. “He was just a really nice, easy, good guy,” said Jerry Plagge, who knew Colglazier.Plagge is the former mayor of Colglazier's hometown of Latimer.
He knew Colglazier for much of his life. “He grew up in the community, he was a native son,” said Plagge.
Colgazier went to school in Latimer.
”He graduated from Cal and married, two young kids,” said Plagge.
He also worked at the John Deere plant in Hampton.
He was also very instrumental in developing Latimer's daycare a few years ago.
“The whole area can be very thankful for the time Dave spent on that project,” said Plagge.
A community that is now stunned by his death. “It's totally unbelievable you know, that somebody can be that involved and vibrant, active, and suddenly it's done,” said Plagge.
And he's leaving a big hole in a number of hearts. “It's just an absolute tragedy that a person--any person, but especially in this case a young family has been permanently damaged, destroyed,” said Plagge.
We still do not know what caused Friday's crash.
Ironically, Colglazier's plane crashed a on a road that runs next to a family member's property.
His wife and two sons were also driving ahead of him along County Road C-25 when he crashed.
