Clear Lake, IA- Just in time for colder weather, people in Clear Lake are trying to help those in need stay warm.
There are 15 boxes like this one set up at Clear Lake banks, churches, and the library.
You are being encouraged to drop off winter clothing for people of all ages including boots, hats, gloves, pants, and coats. Marshall and Swift is providing cleaning services. It's called the Engage Winter Outerwear Drive.
One organizer tells us the effort is very rewarding for the community.
"Watching people walk out clothed and warm, and what was in my closet last week will be on somebody's back next week it's just really neat," said Colleen Thompson.
Thompson got the idea last year after moving to Clear Lake from California. She saw a need when she was shopping for winter clothing for her nephew.
There's still time to drop off donations at churches this weekend, and the banks and library until next Thursday.
You can also make financial contributions through the Clear Lake Community Association. Engage will use the money to buy more winter clothing.
If you need a winter coat just stop by the engage building at 207 4th Street in downtown Clear Lake next Saturday.
