MASON CITY, IA - Renovations on a historic North Iowa building may be a little more than a week away from starting.
On Friday afternoon, members of “Wright on the Park” signed the funding contracts to start construction on the Mason City Park Inn Hotel.
The historic, Frank Lloyd Wright designed building has been pegged for renovations for quite a while, and this is the last major step to get construction started.
"The exciting part of it, is the fact that we've worked for many years to get the funding in order,” said Wright on the Park president Jean Marinos. “Now the funding is in line, and we can sign the contracts; we can get construction started."
Mason City's mayor looked on as the contracts were signed.
He says, this is an enormous step in fixing up the downtown.
"There's an enormous amount of investment from a lot of people,” said mayor Eric Bookmeyer, “and I congratulate and I thank everybody for getting this project ready to move forward."
“Wright on the Park” members say folks should see fencing go up around the building late next week or early the following week.
