Osage, IA- Fire forces an Osage couple from their home late Monday night. The Bierbrodt family woke to the smell of something burning.They managed to escape just in time, but their home is likely a total loss. The fire chief says the two are lucky to be alive.
Chief Kurt Angell tells KIMT News 3, "T
Julie Bierbrodt describes what happened to them late Monday night, "The bedroom door had flown open. And flames shot into our bedroom. He told me to get out of the house. We had to jump through the window."
Fire crews stayed on the scene for about five hours. Chief Angell says they returned later Tuesday to battle some flare-ups and hot spots.
Julie's husband is recover from second degree burns. We do know the blaze started in a downstairs room. The exact cause is under investigation.
