A local travel stop is gaining national attention this week.
Trail's Travel Center in Albert Lea is one of America’s Top Ten Truck Stops. That honor is coming from USA Today.
"We got a call about a week ago from one of the fellows at USA Today congratulating us for being chosen in the top 10 truck stops in the nation," said Steve Klingman, general manager.
Klingman says when he heard about the news...
"I was so honored to hear that it was just the greatest news I’d ever heard."
But he's quick to say it's not because of him, but because of his employees.
"The people that work here seen to tip the scale in our favor," said Klingman.
About 140 people work at Trail's Travel Center. They serve nearly eight million visitors every year.
"It’s a very busy place, lot of travelers and truck drivers, very family oriented place to work for," said Rick Boyer, store manager.
Boyer says the employees at trail's are like a family.
"They all work hard and we all play hard and we all get along very well so it's a very good atmosphere to work in," said Boyer.
And that Midwest family atmosphere resonates with travelers from all over the country.
"I know when I’m traveling I appreciate a nice clean place and my wife does too and that's what we like to keep just what we want when we go on the road," said Boyer.
Simple common sense, as well as some good old fashioned Minnesota nice get you one of the top ten travel stops in the country.
"It's very rare that you'll find folks so committed and so dedicated to their customer and we're very blessed to have those folks work with us as team members," said Klingman.
Trail’s was the only travel stop in Minnesota included in the USA Today top ten. The I-80 Truck Stop in Walcott, Iowa also made the list.
USA Today did not individually rank each truck stop so we don't know which one is the overall best.
