CLEAR LAKE, IA - Area educators took a night off from budget problems on Wednesday to instead, get back to the basics of the job.

Superintendents, board members, and education specialists from across North Iowa met in Clear Lake for workshops focused on “21st century learning.”

In addition to hearing from specialists on the topic, they say, they're learning from each other.

"We're learning, and I think we're thinking that we can do things so much better collectively and collaborating than, maybe, we could do by ourselves, and we're relying on each other's support," said Mason City’s Superintendent Anita Micich.

The group held a similar meeting several months ago; Micich says that went so well, they decided to do it again.

She says it's a chance to focus on what they love to do, educate, and find better ways to do it.
