KLEMME, IA - A North Iowa baby will soon have a chance to do something he's never been able do to.
Hear.
10-month-old Evan Welsh of Klemme will undergo bilateral surgery for cochlear implants on August 7th in Iowa City.
Evan was born profoundly deaf, and has not had any luck with hearing aids.
After testing, he qualifies for the cochlear implants which will allow him to hopefully hear and develop his verbal communication skills.
He currently works with a teacher for the deaf and hearing impaired learning sign language as a way to communicate and prepare his auditory nerve for the implant surgery.
The implants will be activated about a month after surgery.
