An organization aimed at participating in outdoor activities is coming to Iowa, but it's not a group for everyone.
"We provide hunting and fishing trips to them and it's free to them. Travel expenses, food expenses, lodging it's all completely free," said Brad Logeman.
Logeman is the director of the Outdoor Adventure Foundation. It's a group based out of North Dakota, but Logeman wants it to come to north Iowa.
"I’ve been thinking about this for years you know and I finally got a hold of the right people and I just basically wanted to raise some money but they kind of threw me into it completely," said Logeman.
The foundation provides hunting and fishing trips for children and young adults with cancer and other life threatening illness. They also do trips for disabled veterans.
"These families have a lot of medical bills and hunting and fishing is kind of a way to give back to them for what they've had to deal with and it's a good thing," said Logeman.
“The privilege of hunting starts with the youth as everything else does," said Keith Helland.
Helland with Ducks Unlimited says getting youth involved in outdoor activities is important for the future of Iowa and Minnesota’s natural resources.
"Even though they're so little right now we bring them up in this environment that at sometime in their life they'll appreciate the outdoors," said Helland.
And now more people are getting that opportunity.
"Everybody knows somebody with cancer you know and then like we have a tremendous amount of military in Iowa and it's a way to say thank you to them too," said Logeman.
The Outdoor Adventure Foundation is still looking for donors and land owners to host hunting trips. If interested, you can contact Brad Logeman at 641-390-0785. His email address is bradl@usoaf.org.
