ALBERT LEA, MN--An historic building that sits on the corner of Main and Broadway in Albert Lea, is getting a big makeover.

Over the past two years, the christian based non-profit group "As-1", has slowly been making progress on the old Saint Paul Clothing House, with demolition in the inside.

Wednesday and Thursday mornings they were pouring a new basement for the building.

The As-1 board is made up of business leaders and community members.

David Peterson says, "The vision for this probably started over two years ago, probably 3 years ago. By several people in the community, as part of our As-1 board, some people had some real vision for this".

Peterson also says this is a long time in the making as they take care of their funds, "We didn't buy the building until we had the money to pay for it, we used that as kind of a sign to move ahead. So then its been raising some funds to start doing the work, we don't want to have any debt".

The group hopes to be a christian community center for adults, with helpful seminars on a variety of things, like finances.

They also hope to have a coffee shop, pool tables and dart boards, and possible live entertainment.

The center will be open to anyone.
