Worth County, IA- A new law means minors will pay big for trying to get lucky on Iowa slots. The policy went into effect Wednesday. Anyone under 21 caught sneaking into casinos faces a $500.00 fine. The goal is to deter people from gambling illegally.

Security guards at Diamond Jo casino in Worth County tell us keeping minors out is their priority. They end up paying thousands of dollars in fines for letting a youngster through the doors.

Eric Flaten tells KIMT News 3, "If a minor was to enter, either maliciously or otherwise, the casino could be fined a minimum of $20,000."

Security guards say they'll use their best judgment when deciding whether to fine minors. Many Minnesota teens come to Diamond Jo thinking it's okay for them to gamble. The legal age in the Gopher state is 18. In Iowa, it's 21.
