MASON CITY, IA--A North Iowa political mainstay is making plans to call it quits.

Mason City Mayor Roger Bang is announcing he will not seek re-election this coming November.

Bang served 16 years as a councilman and is finishing up his first 4 year term as mayor.

He said he'd love to run again, but he and his wife will be moving out of Mason City next year.

Bang said they won't be leaving North Iowa, but he cannot commit to serving another 4 years.

They maintain homes in Mason City and in Clear Lake.

Mayor Bang said seeking another term wouldn't be fair, "It's been real privilege and I just want to tell you I thank the residents of Mason City for allowing me to serve."

Bang said he really appreciates that and his time of service has been very rewarding.

He is hoping to encourage more people to run for public office.

As Bang puts it, “the more the merrier.”
