Mason City Mayoral Race Underway

MASON CITY, IA-The list of hopefuls to be Mason City's next mayor is starting to grow.

Mayor Roger Bang is announcing he will not seek re-election to another 4 year term in November.

Now, at least 1 person who sits not far from Bang at council meetings is interested in his job.

"I think that we need to continue to do  a lot of the things we're already doing and that direction is dictated by the council, as the mayor I hope I can facilitate some of that, use the bully pulpit to marshal ideas together," said John Jaszewski, Mayor Pro Tem.

The Fourth Ward Councilman has served as Mayor Pro Tem for the past 4 years.
 
At the same time, City Councilman Scott Tornquist is ending any speculation over his future plans.

He will seek re-election to his at-large seat on the council.
