Worth County, IA- Several same-gender couples are crossing the border to get married in Iowa. The number of marriage applications is growing in eastern Iowa communities. Johnson and Linn counties are reporting that about a third of all applicants are from out-of-state.

Worth County's recorder is seeing a different trend. She's processed about a dozen applications. Most are from Minnesota. They are happy to learn they only need to make one trip to tie the knot.

Liz Kenison is the Worth County Recorder. She says, "Even the ones on the phone, because they do call us up and we tell them we can do it through the mail if you can't make it down. And they're very grateful they can do it that way too."

Kenison says a few couples are holding their marriage ceremonies by the river in Northwood. She tells us they appreciate the acceptance from the court magistrate and the Northwood community.
