Northwood, IA- An area veteran says an Iowa mandate will help local veterans.
The legislation is requiring all counties in the state to have its own veteran's affairs office like in Worth County.
Currently veterans living there have to travel to Cerro Gordo County to get assistance.
Worth County's Veteran Affairs Director Jerry Parmley says it’s important each county gets its own office.
"I think it's important that Worth County have its own representation to help its veterans as well as the workload for Cerro Gordo County was just way too great she was trying to handle three counties and it was just too much to handle," he said.
He says they’ll be able to better help area vets.
"Educational programs the GI bill they may not fully understand that, or they may not know where they can go to school or how they can get into the school they want to go to, we can help them do that."
The mandate provides $10,000 a year to counties to start up their offices. Parmley says he's currently looking for a building in Northwood.
