PARKERSBURG, IA- Butler County sheriff's deputies took into custody a man thought to have been carrying a gun near an elementary school that was later determined to be an air pistol.
Authorities said Thursday a man was taken into custody outside the Parkersburg Elementary School, but would not identify him nor say if had been charged with a crime.
School principal Amy May said she received a call from the sheriff's office concerning the suspect shortly before the first of three groups of children were to be dismissed.
She said she was told to lock the doors to the school.
She said the dismissal of the first group of student was delayed a short time, but the other groups were dismissed on schedule.
The Butler County Sheriff's Office said no children or adults were hurt and no shots were fired.
