ALBERT LEA, Minn.- A Minnesota lawmaker wants to make lighting up legal again in the state's bars.

Republican State Representative Tom Hackbarth of Cedar wants to roll back the state's three year old smoking ban.

A bill proposed in the state house would require bars to install ventilation systems, and put walls with closed doors between eating areas.

We talked with one local bar manager who says the ban hurt them financially.

"Once cigarettes stopped being in this bar, it hurt either way, financially it hurt, because, I've got a lot of customers that said, I'm not going to the bar if I can't drink and smoke at the same time, I might as well stay at home," said Eddie’s Bartender Patty Hove.

Other bar owners we talked with say they've forgotten about the smoking ban.

There is no word on how much legislative report the bill will gather.
