OSAGE, IA--
School districts across the North Iowa area are looking for ways to deal with budget cuts. Officials in Osage are trying to make up a projected $1.3 million deficit for the next school year. The district's superintendent tells us they're looking at anything and everything for ways to trim their costs. That includes possible pay cuts of around five percent. “It's happening everywhere not just in schools, you know everywhere across the state even the districts that are growing are having to make reductions,” said Steve Bass, the district’s superintendent, about having to cut costs. “It’s just, it probably doesn't make it any less painful when you’re living it, but its very painful and very stressful.”
Bass says the five percent proposal is just one idea at this point. Even with the reduction Bass says they'd still need to cut several hundred thousand dollars from other parts of the budget.
