Des Moines, IA- A north Iowa man is inspiring change at the state capitol, more than two years after he was killed in a traffic accident. Jermiah Dosser was a young man killed when someone ran a red light and hit him on his motorcycle just days before his 25th birthday.
The motorist who killed him was given the equivalent of a speeding ticket. Now a bill to toughen up penalties for traffic sign violators is passing the Senate with no opposition.
Jermiah's mother, Jody Dosser says, "We were also told by a person from Polk County that if we wanted to make a change, it was up to us to do it."
Democratic State Senator Amanda Ragan of Mason City says, "This is really kind of the start in a process to give them some kind of closure, and to right a wrong that they certainly felt was an injustice."
Senator Ragan says she's never seen the Senate give a member of the audience a standing ovation before. Jermiah's mother says she's humbled and proud.
