MASON CITY, IA - A local college is making sure its students have a voice in politics by bringing state lawmakers to them. Four local legislators took part in a question and answer session at Mason City's Kaplan University.
Senators Amanda Ragan and Merlin Bartz and Representatives Linda Upmeyer and Sharon Steckman listened to several questions about state-wide cuts in school funding. Many of the adult students said state grants make it possible for them to go back to school.
Student Nick Pohlman explained, "that cuts our tuition way down, gives us money to live off of to do other things. So we don't have to work three jobs, come to school, all that."
The lawmakers all agree, they want to keep funding for Iowa Tuition Grants. But they said the state may have to cut back on how much students receive.
