MASON CITY,IA-It's been unseasonably warm this winter, but if one little groundhog has it right - we won't be getting out of this season anytime soon.
It's Groundhog Day and we are all looking to a furry creature to tells us what weather to expect for the next couple of weeks.
Move aside storm team three meteorologists.
It's the one day of the year when we look to a groundhog to predict our weather.
This time around Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his lair and saw his shadow and we all know what that means…six more weeks of winter it must be.”
But not everyone has faith in this creature's forecasting skills.
Jeremiah Mason says, "I don't believe in the groundhog."
John Pippins says, "It's probably tradition, but I don't buy in to that."
Including some of his comrades.
There are many groundhogs that make predictions across the country today and they are not all of the same mindset.
In Wisconsin, Jimmy is predicting spring.
His furry friends Staten Island Chuck and Georgia's General Beauregard Lee agree.
So what exactly does it mean when the groundhog says there will be six more weeks of winter. It's really more of a tradition.
But with the mild weather we have been having this year folks agree, we are probably in store for a little more winter."
Pippins says, "I don't think we had enough of it yet, it's not enough so we should have about six more weeks."
But no matter which of these little guys is right.
Folks agree it won't be too bad either way.
Mason says, “Six more weeks of this would be just fine, I guess for a winter."
Punxsutawney Phil is accurate only about 39 percent of the time.
While General Beauregard Lee's caretakers say he's been right 94 percent of the time.
