MASON CITY, IA - A building designed by Mason City architects is being named one of the smartest in the country.
The health and science building at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge was designed by Bergland and Cram architects. The building boasts environmentally friendly features as well as smart construction.
Siemens’ industries gave the building the title of smartest in the country.
"We used things that are renewable and recyclable, also the technologies that are kind of at the cutting edge of what's possible with what we've got today," said Joseph Anderson, project manager.
The building also obtained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold status. That comes from the U.S. Green Building Council.
This is the first community college building in Iowa to obtain that status.
