MASON CITY, IA-His works are performed all over the world and he's considered one of the most popular composers in his generation.

And on this day Eric Whitacre is stopping by Mason City.

Composer and Conductor Eric Whitacre said, "I do a lot of traveling, a lot of concerts so I never know and I think I was sort of struck at how good the choral music is here, how good the singing is, I was hoping to make music, but I think we made something pretty special."

He's working with teachers from all over the state, at the Iowa Choral Directors Association Conference.

But this is just one of many things going on in his part of the choral music world.

Whitacre is releasing his first album this fall and he's also working on a performance getting broadway buzz.

But one of the most unique things he's doing is what's known as a virtual choir.

"A young lady sent me a video of herself singing one of my pieces, just the soprano part, and i saw it and thought god what if 100 people did this all at the same time," said Whitacre.

It's that creativity and imagination that draws in all these fans and for him a lot of questions revolve around inspiration

Whitacre said, "For me it's always about the poetry, if I can find a beautiful poem it seems to be full of music and my job is to just quiet myself and illuminate the text."
