Graveyards, chainsaws, and scary looking masks are all things you'll find at the haunted hike in Clear Lake.
It's a trail full a thrills that takes all year to plan.
Owner, Debbie Anderson says, "basically we already have our ideas for next year...we started that about three years ago..it takes a whole yr. Its every single day and every single night...that's all we do...we live for Halloween. We love it!"
The Anderson's Hike is ranked in the top ten by the Iowa Haunting Association and has been in the business for the past ten years with the same intent.
Owner, Dale Ross Anderson says, "get people out of their norm and get people to have some good clean, scary fun."
Some of the props aren't fake and at one point there's an actual pigs head outside. An inexpensive way to cut costs when robotics are so expensive.
"We recycle a lot of stuff we don't have to budget to go through and spend a lot of money on animatronics some stuff we picked up on junk day and we turn it into something kinda cool," says Dale Ross Anderson.
The hike has about thirty different actors who volunteer their time each night... all with the same goal.
Actor Kris Kramm says, "I just wanna hear em' scream. If they look terrified I know i'm doing my job."
Some actors can even play multiple roles throughout the night with the help of an underground basement.
Dale Ross Anderson says, "someone can do a haunt up on top go through the cave...change into a completely different person and haunt in the back...it's really awesome."
It's a lot of work that goes into creating this chilling walk.
One that the Andersons say is better spent at night.
