MASON CITY, IA - The end of greyhound racing in Iowa could be near. A House panel approved a measure to end the gambling activity in the state.
The proposal states casinos will no longer have to subsidize race prizes. Which would mean owners won't want to race.
It could also mean a thousand of the dogs trained to run will have to find a home.
Local greyhound lover Pat Wilson says she is part of a group that's ready to foster and find good homes for the dogs if the law ever passes.
"We're not those fanatical people that say absolutely no racing, it's all about the dogs because they run their little hearts out and do their best. Our commitment is to take care of them afterwards."
Now that the House has approved the greyhound racing measure, it will go to the House State Government Committee.
