Nearly one in six Americans is infected with Herpes. The Centers for Disease Control says some may have the sexually transmitted disease and not even know it.One public health official tells us some people may think they have a bug bite or a razor burn. But in reality they've got Herpes.
She tells us the best form of prevention is still abstinence. “You know when you're in gym class and your gym teacher says ‘when you have sex with somebody, you have sex with everybody they had sex with’ and you're thinking it's really lame, it is really true and so by limiting the number of partners your have you are limiting your exposure to herpes as well as other STDs,” said Betty Krones, a disease prevention specialist at the Cerro Gordo Department of Public Health.
Betty Krones says if you think you have been exposed to Herpes or another STD, it's a good idea to get tested. That way you can find out what kind of treatment may be available to you.
