FOREST CITY, IA - A north Iowa golf course has a new owner.
Bear Creek Golf Course in Forest City is now owned by the city. The private golf organization is being replaced by a city-managed board.
The course will operate as a non-profit organization. Basic membership dues will drop about 5 percent and kids 13 and under will be able to golf for free. Board members expect the new agreement will be a good financial move.
"We’re pretty confident that going forward with the plan that we've got we'll be able to become an amenity that sustains itself it won't cost the city extra money each year and we expect we'll be able to operate in the black under this new operating agreement," said John Roisen, golf board member.
Bear Creek opened shortly after World War II and added a back nine in 2003. Forest City will pay $250,000 over 10 years for the course.
