MASON CITY, IA - Sunday, around the world grassroots parties are working to find solutions to a major issue. Global warming is the message many are talking about. In Clear Lake one group is encouraging folks to cut back on their carbon footprint by using fabric bags instead of plastic.

Group organizer, Daryl Kothenbeutel, says they are signing a petition saying there should be a fine for using plastic.

"8% of all the oil used in the world goes into the manufacturing of plastics, which that's a pretty significant number when you think about it."

Kothenbeutel is also a part of the group called 350.org. The number represents the highest amount of CO2 that should be in earth's atmosphere. But, right now that number is much higher.
