CLEAR LAKE, IA---Each week a group of siblings give back to a Clear Lake organization as a way of showing their gratitude.

The 4 sisters and 1 brother are our "Giving Your Best Volunteers of the Month" for June.

Once a week they show up at the Opportunity Village general store.

Dorothy Callahan, Mary Coyle, Doris Boehnke, Vickie Swenson and Larry Swenson said they've donated more than 21 years of combined volunteer service to the organization.

"They always want to help and do good for other people,” said Deb Mills who nominated the siblings.

Their connection to Opportunity Village dates back nearly 40 years.

That's when the organization offered them some much needed help.

In 1970 they lost both of their parents within 3 months and there was a younger sibling who was unable to care for herself outside the home.

That girl was Vickie, who became one of the first people to stay at the Village.

They also started volunteering.

The 5 help by decorating and getting the living quarters ready.

Over the past decade the group has tried to do something to help out each week.

"Dee just kept after me to come over and help so I started and I enjoy it," said Doris Boehnke.

"Our job basically is to hang up clothes, stop and have coffee and chat with the Thursday group," said Mary Coyle.

Congratulations to Dorothy, Mary, Doris, Vicki, and Larry, our "Giving Your Best Volunteers of the Month" for June.

Giving back to the organization that gave so much to them is what they are all about.

Giving Your Best is sponsored by KIMT News 3, Carlos O'Kelly's and First Citizens National Bank.
