MASON CITY,IA-Iowa is trying to reduce the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer.

Packaged and bulk firewood is now required to be labeled with the state and county it comes from.

That's because Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey said the infestation seems to be traveling mostly by firewood.

Locally it has not hit, but local tree experts say they are keeping an eye open and there are steps in place if it heads this way.

Owner of Cutting Edge Tree Service Kevin Hardy said, "the government may set up quarantine areas, they may even do an eradication procedure where they would come in and cut down all the trees in a given area."

Once the Ash Borer has infested a tree, it takes about two years for it to die.
