NORTHWOOD, IA--Hundreds gathered in Northwood on Saturday in hopes of finding a cure for cancer.

The Worth County Relay for Life took place at the Worth County Fairgrounds.

Opening ceremonies started at four and the event ended at 10.

Nearly 400 participants showed up to listen to volunteer entertainers.

They also had a survivor candle lighting ceremony.

An event organizer said they've raised over $31,000 for cancer research.

"Maybe the last dollar we raise tonight is going to be the one that finds a cure--that's the best part," said Tom Sculley, the chair for the Worth County Relay for Life.

Sculley said the event was 'without a doubt' a success.

There is a similar event happening at the North Iowa Area Community College this Friday.
