VENTURA, IA - An Iowa senator is making sure our local schools are safe.
Ventura High School is just one of several buildings getting money from the Harkin Grant program. They are dollars set aside by the Senator Tom Harkin to fix up emergency equipment like fire alarms in schools.
Folks at Ventura say, they may not be able to do the project without the help.
"When you're looking back at budget cuts across the state of Iowa in education, anytime we get a grant, anytime we receive money that can be applied towards any kind of program, we're excited," said Assistant Superintendent Brian Rodemeyer.
Several other North Iowa schools are getting money as well.
They include West Hancock, Central Springs, North Butler, CWL, Nashua-Plainfield, Northwood-Kensett, and John Adams Middle School in Mason City.
