Butler County's 100 year flood plan is expanding, and it's impacting more people.

In Greene, city leaders say there are many neighborhoods considered flood zones that were not that way, before.

This means people can now get flood insurance to help protect their properties.

The additional areas are going to be grandfathered in so homeowners can get the insurance at a preferred rate.

Those who don't want to be in the flood zone can contest it, but that must be within the next week.

Greene City Clerk, Jayne Knapp says, "it's not just a matter of sending in a letter saying hey we think your wrong so there's gonna have to be a little leg work done, one of the ladies at shell rock that worked on this project spent 10 days doing this."

Folks living in Butler county are urged to find out if they are now part of the new 100 year flood zone.

Call Greene's City Hall Office at (641) 816-4631 or Jason Conn with the DNR at (515) 281-4333 to find out if you live among the new areas included in the plan.
