Charles City, IA- Wednesday marks four years since a five-year-old Floyd County girl went missing from her home.

There's not a day that goes by for Floyd County's Sheriff and his deputies without having Evelyn Miller cross their mind.

"Everyday there's a thought that goes through yes," said Deputy Brian Tiedemann.

Brian Tiedemann is one of two deputies assigned to the Evelyn Miller investigation. He remembers being one of the first on the scene when she was reported missing.

"We received so much help that made us feel confident that our search was a good solid search," he said.

For days, volunteers from out of state and the surrounding area looked for the missing five year old.  Fishermen found her body five days later on floating in the Cedar River.  Tiedemann says the crime still haunts Floyd County.

"There's still people in the community, watch the kids a little bit closer, which its always good, but there's always on the back of someone's mind, we lost a child," he said.

Sheriff Rick Lynch says that keeps law enforcement motivated to find the person or people responsible.

"Every prosecutor, agent, law enforcement person that's in this case with it being a five year old, is the big case that everyone wants to get solved," he said.

Lynch says after four years, the investigation is still active as ever.

"Lot of phone calls between the agent and my office, some round tables as I call it, just sitting down throwing out Ideas strategizing about the case itself," said Lynch

He says his office is "fired up" about the investigation right now.  He says in the next few weeks they're using new technology that may help solve the case.  He can't give any specifics, but he says the technology just became available in Iowa in the last year.

The sheriff says marking the disappearance annually and recent convictions help generate tips.
