NEW HAMPTON, IA---The Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office is hoping for a good soaking rain, until then it is urging drivers to be extremely cautious on the area's dry roads.

The dust clouds created by drivers are being being blamed for at least three traffic mishaps this past week.

Two of them happened back-to-back on Thursday afternoon.

Deputy T.W. Miller said both of them were exacerbated by large gravel clouds.

Deputies said this year has been as dry as any in Chickasaw County; they are comparing the roads and their dust to talcum powder.

It's been dry and on windless days the dust does not get blown away.

Deputies said it is very dangerous to drive in the dust clouds.

They are asking drivers not to enter intersections or use other crossings when they cannot see through the dust clouds.
